About the Artist, Philip Sheridan

Philip SheridanPhilip Sheridan of Kingwood, TX is a third generation wood worker, and although those before him were rather handy, Philip is truly a self-taught artist. His love and passion for all things wood began when a great uncle handed down a multi-purpose tool –a shop smith. Here he began to experiment with various tools, but found a love for wood turning. Using a machine called a lathe Philip developed a passion for turning undistinguished pieces of wood into magnificent pieces of art.

Philip’s favorite past time in the shop is developing unique designs from segmented pieces of wood. This process is done through gluing together fragments of wood which have been cut at precise angles for a specific design. After all pieces of the design are in place, the piece is turned on the lathe.

Philip’s art is a true testament to his patience and love of wood, as each piece requires hours of gluing, waiting, turning and finishing to reveal the final masterpiece…vases, bowls, or peppermills.
